Watch live: Labour reacts to latest Mandelson files release as secret WhatsApp messages revealed

Watch live as the government makes a statement following the latest release of documents relating to Lord Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador.

Sir Keir Starmer’s principal secretary, Darren Jones, will address the House of Commons after the second release of files into the prime minister’s decision to give the prestigious Washington job to Lord Mandelson rather than a diplomat.

The statement includes previously classified documents and WhatsApp messages shared between the former ambassador and senior government officials.

The House of Commons ordered the release of the files after Lord Mandelson’s ties to pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein were revealed.

The first tranche of documents, released in March, showed Sir Keir had been warned of the “public reputation risk” due to Lord Mandelson’s connection to Epstein.

That peer was ousted in September 2025, just nine months into the job, as more details emerged about his ties to Epstein.
