Turkish Military Aircraft Crash Video: A Turkish C-130 military transport plane carrying at least 20 service personnel crashed in eastern Georgia after leaving Azerbaijan on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed there were injuries, but the exact number has not yet been announced. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident. According to Reuters, in the images circulating on the internet, the plane is seen moving in a spiral with smoke coming out of its engines shortly before the collision.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paused his public speech in Ankara to express his condolences for “our martyrs”, a term commonly used to honor military members who died in the line of duty. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made a statement acknowledging the loss of soldiers after his phone call with Erdogan. According to Georgia’s Interpress news agency, the accident occurred in the Sighnaghi region of the Kakheti region, near Georgia’s border with Azerbaijan.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that there were 20 Turkish soldiers on the plane, including the flight crew. It is not yet clear whether there will be additional passengers from Azerbaijan.

Erdoğan, who received a written update from his assistants during his speech, asked citizens to pray for the victims and said, “May God give patience to the souls of our martyrs.”

Both Turkish and Georgian authorities are coordinating efforts to gain access to the crash site and investigate the incident.

The aircraft involved, the C-130 Hercules, is a widely used four-engine turboprop transport aircraft designed by US manufacturer Lockheed Martin. Known for its ability to operate on makeshift airstrips, the C-130 is often used to transport troops, supplies and equipment.
