WB BJP leaders meet PM ahead of mega Brigade Rally in Kolkata

Senior leaders of the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday, March 12, 2026, days before the party’s important rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground. Leaders who met the Prime Minister included Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari and State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya. At the meeting, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin and the State’s party observers were present, a discussion was also held on possible candidates contesting from West Bengal.

The meeting is scheduled to be held 48 hours before the Prime Minister will address the mega rally to be held at the Kolkata Brigade Parade on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The rally marks the culmination of the BJP Parivartan Yatra in the state, which has passed through 250 Assembly constituencies in the state in the last two weeks.

“I will be in Assam and West Bengal in the next two days to participate in programs in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar and Kolkata. These programs will provide a great opportunity to interact with the people of these states. Various developmental works will also be initiated,” the Prime Minister said in his tweet.

The Prime Minister’s rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata is a show of strength for the BJP ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. The stage at the rally was modeled on the lines of the famous Kalighat temple in Kolkata. Mr Modi is also expected to launch a series of developmental initiatives at an administrative event near the political rally venue.

The meeting between the Prime Minister and senior BJP leaders in the state also comes at a time when the party will announce candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. Senior party leaders were also present at the central election commission meeting to finalize the names of candidates for the Assembly elections. According to party sources, the first candidates of the BJP are likely to be announced in the next few days. There are 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly and the state is expected to go to polls in the next two months.
