Venezuelan MP Nicolas Maduro Guerra said that his father, President Nicolas Maduro, sent a message through his lawyers stating that he was in good condition and remained determined during his detention in the USA.

“The lawyers told us that they are strong and that we should not be upset,” Guerra said in a speech to leaders of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela on Saturday (local time). he said.

He quoted his father as saying: “We are good. I am a warrior.”

President Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are currently being held in the United States following a military offensive by US forces in Caracas and three other Venezuelan cities on January 3, an operation that resulted in their capture. The strikes sparked worldwide condemnation and concern, Xinhua news agency reported.

Maduro Guerra said his father acted unwaveringly, adding that the government and its supporters “stand united and firm.”

“The power of Chavismo comes from unity. We must remain united no matter what,” he said.

Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, vowed on Saturday to secure the return of Maduro and his wife. Speaking at a community event in the state of Miranda, Rodriguez said there was no uncertainty about Venezuela’s leadership or governance program.

“There is no uncertainty here. The Venezuelan people and the government of President Nicolas Maduro are in charge.” He called for unity to guarantee peace, stability and the future of the country.

Rodriguez vowed not to rest “not even for a minute” until Maduro and Flores returned to Venezuela.

She noted that a year ago, she was sworn in alongside Maduro at the start of his third term, adding that “today, one year later, we are swearing for his freedom.”

Rodriguez said national unity will be decisive in the effort to “save” Maduro, as he called it, and confirmed that his government continues to implement the seven lines of action laid out by Maduro.
