Weekend of wet weather forecast across Australia, with severe storms headed to the eastern states | Australia weather

Starting from Friday, rainy weather will begin throughout the country over the weekend. Bureau of Meteorology Severe storms are expected in eastern parts of Australia, especially Queensland.
Showers and storms were expected across all states and territories over the weekend, but north-eastern parts of New South Wales and south-east Queensland were expected to be “particularly wet” with severe storms expected.
BoM senior meteorologist Sarah Scully said these parts of both states “may experience damaging winds, large hail or heavy rainfall that could cause flash flooding”.
Brisbane is expected to receive up to 80mm of rainfall between Friday and Sunday, with damaging storms expected to develop on Friday night and stick around for much of the weekend.
The bureau predicts storms in the Darling Downs in the southeast and parts of Maranoa and Warrego could be severe, just two weeks after supercell storms ripped through the region.

This weekend marks the fifth consecutive severe storm in south-east Queensland, including supercell storms, “considered the most long-lived and dangerous of thunderstorms”.
“We are right in the middle of severe weather season,” Scully said.
It was expected to be a cooler start to the weekend in Sydney, with people waking up to a low of 17°C on Saturday morning, rising to 27°C later in the day, and a high of 31°C on Sunday.
But Scully said it was forecast to be a “rainy Saturday,” with showers possible and possibly an afternoon or evening storm.
“Saturday is the busiest day for the Sydney region, with the worst of the showers and storms reaching offshore on Sunday,” he said.
Severe storms “were also possible for the south coast, extending into the mountain ranges and then into the Blue Mountains.”
Temperatures in Melbourne were forecast to reach a high of 21C on both Saturday and Sunday, but a low of 11C will mean a colder start to the weekend in that city too, with thunderstorms possible in the morning hours.

On Sunday, Melbourne was expected to receive showers in the afternoon and evening; This includes possible thunderstorms throughout the weekend.
While showers and storms are expected in the northern parts of Western Australia from Friday to Sunday, Perth will avoid any wet weather and sunny skies will bring the maximum temperature to 25°C on Saturday and 29°C on Saturday.
The BoM also warned that a tropical low cyclone could form north of the Kimberley or Northern Territory next week, but as of Friday the chances remained low.
The showers and storms expected across the country this weekend are due to “numerous low pressure troughs combined with tropical moisture,” Scully said.
“Tomorrow this trough will extend from eastern Australia to the southeast and draw a band of clouds as far south as Tasmania,” he said.
As well as the wet weather, Scully also warned that fire danger rates were “expected to become extreme” across the central and southern slopes and plains of NSW this weekend.
