Scott Morrison’s Islamophobic rhetoric is the problem, not Muslims

Former prime minister Scott Morrison called About “Islamic institutions” to be held responsible for “radicalized Islamic extremism.” She might frame it as a matter of safety or responsibility, but for people like me, an visibly Muslim woman, these words are not abstract. They harm our bodies, our safety, and our daily lives.

I experience the comment not as a policy debate, but as the tightness of my chest when I get on public transport, the double glances and lingering stares, my existence turning into a question mark that needs to be explained or defended.
