Javi Gracia: Watford boss resigns just three months into second spell with club

Watford head coach Javi Gracia has resigned from his position, just over three months after a 2-0 defeat to Swansea City.

Gracia, who returned to Vicarage Road for only a second time in October, called for a meeting with club owner Gino Pozzo following Saturday’s defeat, saying the team was in a “very difficult period”.

“We remain confident that Javi is the right man to lead the club towards the promotion push, however Javi felt that he no longer had the motivation and was not the right man to continue coaching this exciting group of young players.” A club statement said:, external

“We respect his decision and accept his wish to leave Vicarage Road immediately.”

Gracia will start with Watford, who sit 10th in the championship, four points off the top six, and travel to third-placed Hull City on Tuesday.

Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa are set to take over the reins of the road trip to face the Tigers.
