Mohan Majhi government plans to strengthen cooperative movement in Odisha in a big way

The Mohan Majhi government introduced the ambitious Odisha State Cooperative policy of 2025, aiming to strengthen the cooperative movement in the state. A main feature of politics is to create a united marketing brand called Odisha’s products in international markets to promote its products in international markets.
In addition, it plans to provide collaborative education in public schools and colleges and integrate cooperative values and principles into the academic curriculum. Modules will be developed on cooperatives as part of vocational training at a secondary level.
The draft policy copy says the state will try to establish 30 model cooperative villages (one per region) by 2030 and will develop sectoral cooperative clusters in millet, pulse, milk, fishing, coffee, crafts and spices until 2036.
A strong umbrella ‘Utkal/Kalinga Brand’ plans to launch Odisha’s cooperative products and feels its presence in national and international markets. The policy is discussing the revival of the ‘Kalinga Pure’ brand. The government will provide design, packaging and quality certificate support to cooperatives to meet modern market standards.
Cooperative movements will help to increase the income and rural employment of farmers through diversification and expansion of the market, according to politics.
According to the state government, Odisha is currently about 8000 cooperatives, agricultural credit, daily, fishing, poultry, hand, handicrafts, textiles, tribal development, welfare of housing, consumers and employees – the welfare of the employees – has a CRORE membership base.
“The most active and spoken about the cooperatives in the state are the cooperatives in the agricultural-creditic sector as in history.
