The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has published the results of the re-employment process of teachers who lost their jobs following the April 3 Supreme Court order. Incorrect marking and crash of WBSSC website are causing concerns among candidates.
The results of the candidates who applied for the 11th Grade 12th Grade Assistant Teacher positions were announced on the official website. Although the authorities announced the results late on Friday night, November 7, 2025, the site could not be accessed until the evening of Saturday, November 8, 2025. While most candidates were left undecided by not being able to see their results, those who managed to see their results highlighted more than one wrong mark in the correct answers.
Mehboob Mondal, leader of ‘Joggya Sikkhak Sikkhika Adhikar Mancha’ (Teachers’ Rights Entitlement Forum), said, “Many people are yet to see their results as the website is still not working. But for many subjects, even correct answers have been marked as wrong. SSC told us that it was a typo.”
“This exam constitutes only 60% of the total marks that teachers will get, the remaining 40% will be based on our teaching experiences and interviews. What will happen to the teachers who have been working for 6 years but cannot make it to the final rounds? They will be pushed towards death,” Mondal added.
Other teachers who lost their jobs following the WBSSC scam also said they were not in the mental or physical condition to attend the exams and had little time to prepare for the exams as they had to fight cases in court. “With such a mental load, we are struggling with thousands of new candidates. How will we achieve this?” asked another teacher who had just taken the exams.
“The result of the written examination for class levels XI-XII for the 2nd SLST, 2025 for the recruitment of Assistant Teachers in Government aided/sponsored schools in West Bengal is being published today, 7 November 2025. The examination was conducted on 14 September 2025 in 35 subjects. The total number of examinees was 229606 and the number of seats was 478.” The official statement from WBSSC said on Friday night, November 7, 2025.
State Education Minister Bratya Basu applauded the development and said it was possible due to the sincere cooperation of administrative staff and patronage of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“The publication of these results is not just an administrative step but also a unique step towards the implementation of new recruitment by December – the fulfillment of a promise,” Mr. Basu wrote in his post on social media account X.
long road to work
An order by the Supreme Court on April 3 canceled the jobs of nearly 26,000 teachers and non-teaching staff in schools, citing irregularities in the 2016 panel’s recruitment process. This led to months of protests, with thousands of teachers on the roads, and numerous fights with authorities. They demanded that candidates who have not been implicated in corruption and have been proven to be “tainless” be reinstated to their previous jobs without going through the new recruitment process. However, this request was not accepted by either the government or the courts.
A new recruitment process is underway for both teaching and non-teaching staff, in line with the Supreme Court order which ordered the entire 2016 panel to be canceled and a new recruitment process to be completed by 31 December.
There are over 35,726 new posts in Government-aided schools in this year’s recruitment process. More than 5 lakh candidates applied for these teaching posts for classes 9 to 12.
