‘We’ve got to get scary’: Australia unready for war, warns expert panel on Sky News

Australia is unprepared to defend itself in the face of increasing global tensions, warned the country’s most senior defense and foreign policy figures.
In a special Sky News Australian program, the award-winning journalist Chris Uhlmann in the historical cabinet room of the former Parliament House, the panel agreed on a final result-if the conflict came, Australia would not be ready.
Mr. Uhlmann said the position was a reminder of a time when leadership is tested under extreme pressure.
“Today, as China rises, the threat of great conflict in our region appears once again with the changing and global disintegration of America,” he said.
Former Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon argued that the warning time for a potential threat was “much shorter” and was critical to engage in the United States.
“We cannot allow a hegemony… This is not democratic in our region,” he said.
“This means to make a threat to deterrent and reject a threat.
“This means, of course, to spend more, to spend smarter and to be more creative about our way of spending and spend more efficiently.”
Former Foreign Minister Alexander Downer described the strategic situation of the world, which pointed to the growing connections between China, North Korea, Iran and Russia, as “difficult even if not dangerous”.

Mr. Down, Australia’s permanent security partnership with the United States is vital for maintaining stability in the region, he said.
“If this alliance is well directed by the Americans and as members of the alliance, if we are serious in terms of spending and making a practical contribution to defense throughout our equipment, then we will provide a balance of power in the world and will be a force for peace.”
“But if we fail… The risks are too big.”
Former Interior Secretary Michael Parzullo warned that China’s latest sea exercise on the coast of Australia was “probably a rehearsal for missile strikes”.
“There is a very different China from China, which Hawke, Keating and Howard dealt with, Paz said Pimzullo.

Cyber Security Specialist Catherine Mansed, the threat is already on the land of the house, he said.
“We are not in peace… China actively explores our civilian cyber spies and civilian critical infrastructure seeking weaknesses… For potentially high -effective sabotage if relations deteriorate.”
Strategic analyst Peter Jennings said Australia should “worry”.
“This is not a story about these 2030s… This is completely wrong to say that China said that they have stabilized the relationship with China somehow about the positioning of China as dominant strategic power in our world, if necessary military power, and our government somehow stabilizes the relationship with China.
The panel also warned that a Chinese attack on Taiwan would rapidly attract in Australia.
Mr. Jennings estimated that he would start with a blockade before he cut off the missile strikes and leadership.

Former Naval Officer Jennifer Parker said China could target Japanese and US forces and that the participation of Australia can no longer be a “regional conflict”, where there is no choice.
Dr Ross Babbage emphasized that the distance from the US alliance will fires “public anger ve and that Australians should understand the risks.
Imiz We must be informed. We must be strong. We must be scary… Invest in things that make the other man change his calculations, Dr Dr Babbage said.
Defense Aviation Specialist Dr Oleksandra Molloy said in 2014, “no one will be in Ukraine” but “too late to take action”.
“We have time and resources… And we can improve and do it right now, Dr Dr Molloy said. Regardless of the scenario, the panel admitted that Australia is currently equipped to go to war.
“Nobody around this table wants war,” Mr. Uhlmann said.
“Everyone hopes for peace, but sometimes you can’t get this choice, and a wise government plans for the best situation, not for the best situation.”
