What is keratosis pilaris? Causes, symptoms and treatment options for chicken skin

A few years ago, two Indian film celebrities Yami Gautami and Samantha Ruth Prabhu said they suffered from keratoz pilaris and myositis. Keratoz Pilaris, also known as chicken skin, has become more popular than ordinary people are familiar with the term.

What is keratosis?

Keratosis results in small, meat -colored or red tubers similar to a skin disorder and impact that result in the occurrence of rough stains. The disorder occurs when it produces excessive amount of keratin, a protein that can block skin hair follicles and results in acne. Typically, these pimples appear in arms, thighs, cheeks and hips. They are usually white, sometimes red and painful or itchy.

Although there is no complete treatment for this, medicated creams can be controlled by sometimes oral drugs and small cosmetic operations that can improve the appearance of the skin.

Although it is known that women affect a little more than men, people of both sexes may suffer from it. The disease, probably, tends to deteriorate in winter due to friction caused by wearing extra clothes in cold months.

How is it treated?

Simple softening lotions and keratolytic agents (extinguishing outer skin layers) are widely used to treat the condition, but the seasons can naturally heal as the summer changes from winter to summer. Other treatments include topical retinoid creams (synthetic drugs made of vitamin A), short -term topical steroid creams and even oral retinoids. Microdermabrasion and impact paint or long impact diode laser treatment were also tried and some people have been slightly effective in small cosmetic operations.

In general, some cooperation from the patient and the doctor, a clear explanation of the benign nature of the disease, and reasonable expectations for treatment can be controlled.
