What is S1? Pakistan’s secret unit that trains terrorists to attack India; know all about it

The report stated that S1’s headquarters is in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, and most of its terrorist activities are financed with drug money. The unit’s staff and instructors are experts in making all kinds of bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Pakistan-based terrorists attacked Kashmir in April this year.

A secret unit in Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has played a key role in carrying out terror attacks in India over the years. NDTV reported that the unit was known as S1 or Subversion 1, citing sources who stated that the unit was the major driving force behind cross-border terrorism forces. It is headed by a Colonel from the Pakistan Army and two ranking officers are handling active operations. The code names of the two officers are Gazi 1 and Gazi 2.

The report stated that S1’s headquarters is in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, and most of its terrorist activities are financed with drug money. The unit’s staff and instructors are experts in making all kinds of bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). They can also use a wide variety of small arms. S1 is believed to have detailed maps of most places in India. The unit has reportedly been operating for the last 25 years, but India’s security agencies were only recently able to unravel the entire activities of the unit.

S1 is also said to be linked to all terrorist groups operating outside Pakistan. Its personnel have been spotted in terror training camps of major groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. The report stated that they adapted to the environment by wearing long beards and ethnic clothes. S1 has reportedly trained thousands of terrorists over the past two decades. The unit is so secret that most terrorist groups don’t know their instructors are from S1.
