NEA federal charter revoke calls intensify from Republican lawmakers

With the National Education Association in the spotlight after growing public opposition to the Trump administration and accusations of financially supporting far-left agenda items, two Republicans are taking steps to revoke the association’s federal charter.
The National Education Association holds the rare distinction in Washington, D.C., of being the only labor union with a federal charter, which it received from Congress in 1906, and critics have argued that the NEA’s functions then and now are very different.
Republican Reps. Buddy Carter and Mary Miller have been vocal critics of the NEA in recent years and have called for the contract to be canceled; It’s a move Carter said Fox News Digital will be “significant” and “will have great clout.”
“Let’s face it, the NEA is nothing more than a liberal political organization masquerading as a teachers union,” Carter added. “Remember in 1906 Congress gave them this charter to elevate the profession. They’re not elevating the profession now.”

“You only have to look at their recent actions here to see that they have evolved into a liberal political organization,” Carter told Fox News Digital. “Calling President Trump’s policies as fascism, calling for biological males to be allowed to participate and play sports, opposing the Anti-Defamation League, which is trying to eliminate anti-Semitism. All the policies they’ve put in place, 98% of their donations now go to Democrats and liberal Democrats. And then of course what they’ve done in Minneapolis and Minnesota – all of these actions lead us to believe that they should be: their statutes should be withdrawn.”

“They’ve lost their way. Their goal is not to educate kids,” Miller told Fox News Digital. “This is a social engineering program. This is what NEA has become.”

Miller continued, “But instead of pushing the foundations of education so that our kids can be literate, they can do math, and they know our history, they understand our civics, they’re educated in science and basic education, what American parents want, they’re pushing DEI, they’re pushing weird sexual stuff, they don’t want parents involved. They’re against homeschooling. They’ve called for boycotts of companies that they think don’t support their cause. The statehood of the District of Columbia.
