Whidbey Island family prevents tree from falling onto home

Dark and cold for three days.

That’s what some Whidbey Island residents had to deal with after a powerful storm ripped through the area this week.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) said Whidbey Island was one of the hardest hit, with winds gusting to around 75 miles per hour Tuesday night.

PSE says the storm affected four substations and numerous circuits and transmission lines, leaving more than 31,000 PSE customers without power throughout Island County.

After 24 hours of work, additional teams were sent to Whidbey, the substations were restarted and electricity was restored.

But one family on Whidbey Island was desperate to get professional help after a massive tree leaning at a 45-degree angle looked like it was about to fall on their home.

So they devised a rather ingenious plan; supporting the tree and then slowly lowering it away from the house. They used a tractor, cables and a lot of courage.

In addition to saving their home, the family says they are also excited to have their powers back online.
