Porn, alcohol and lack of control in families: Madhya Pradesh DGP on increase in rapes; says police alone can’t curb rapes

Madhya Pradesh Police General Manager (DGP) Kailash Makwana said on Sunday, June 29, 2025, claiming that various other factors such as pornography, internet and alcohol caused a decrease in morality in society, while claiming that it could not prevent rape incidents while allegedly led to an increase in sexual assault cases.

Mr. Makwana made statements after organizing a review meeting for Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which was planned to be held in 2028. He claimed that previous children listened to their parents and teachers and said, “Now vulgarite is being served on the internet”.

“The way pornography is served on the Internet, the minds of the children are distorted. There are many reasons behind the increasing rape events.

Mr. Makwana said, “Today, no one can take care of each other in a house. Previously, children used to obey teachers and parents and had ashamed [elders’] Vision, but now many borders have been broken, and since childhood, obscene content is presented on the Internet, certainly disrupts the minds of (children). This is why these events increase. “

In recent years, the state has seen an increase in sexual assault cases, and the government reported to the government council in 2024 that 7,294 rape cases have been reported as about 20 cases per day throughout Madhya Pradesh.

The government said it increased by more than 19% in 2020 in the last budget session in March.
