Council elections: Deputy mayors to battle for Town of East Fremantle’s top job

Two deputy mayors want the best job in the town of East Fremantle.

President Jim O’Neill announced that he would retire 18 years later this year and said that the council needed someone with “enthusiastic ideas and ways”.

Current Mayor Tony Natale and former Melville City Mayor Tomas Fitzgerald, took their place.

CR Natale said he has been advocating for four years and defending financial responsibility, transparency and strategic leadership.

“I am determined to take a great place to guide the Eastern Fremantle with openness, trust and a community approach in every decision,” he said.

Tomas announced that he resigned as the city of Melville on 4 September after six years of service, including two of them.

He said that his family had built a new house in Eastern Fremantle and was encouraged by the residents who were worried about the future of the town.

“I will work tirelessly to provide a financial sustainable, transparent with inhabitants and a well -directed council that takes the environmental administration seriously,” he said.

Cr Kerry is ready to grab four parliamentary members in East Fremantle, including a two -year period after the retirement of Donovan.

Sitting council members will face Mark Wilson, Andrew White and Cliff Collinson Stephanie Boyd, Rebecca Cutter and Antony Brockmann.

East Fremantle CEO Jonathan Throsell said that selected members played an important role in making decisions about services, infrastructure, development and future priorities.

“The local government is the closest government level to the community,” he said.

Mr. O’Neill and Cr Kerry thanked Donovan who resigned for serving the council.

“The town was lucky to be a generous and dedicated leader in Jim O’Neill for 18 years and CR Donovan in the last six years as a total mayor in the last 24 years and CR Donovan in the last six years,” he said.
