Suspected Pakistani drones spotted over border areas; search operation launched

The incident comes just days after security forces seized a shipment of weapons suspected to have been shot down by a Pakistani-origin drone on Friday night. The consignment was seized from Paloora village of Ghagwal near IB in Samba district.

A search operation was launched on the ground regarding the incident.

Security forces detected movement of suspected Pakistani drones along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. Security officials suspected that the vehicles came from Pakistan and said that the vehicles wandered over Indian territory for a few minutes and then returned. According to the PTI report, a search operation was launched on the ground in connection with the incident.

In Nowshera district along the LoC, army officials reportedly opened fire with machine guns after observing drone movement over Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 pm. Around the same time, another drone was spotted in Khabbar village of Teryath in Rajouri district. A similar flying object with flashing light was spotted over Chak Babral village in Samba’s Ramgarh sector for several minutes, officials said. Another suspicious drone was observed moving towards Topa in Mankote area in Poonch district around 6:25 pm, the report said.

The consignment was seized from Paloora village of Ghagwal near IB in Samba district. Authorities said the weapons included two pistols, three magazines, 16 bullets and a hand grenade.
