Who is El Mencho’s daughter Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez and why was she jailed in the US?

The Mexican military has killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the feared leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), in a major blow to organized crime networks. The murder not only triggered a strong response from the cartel, but also brought renewed attention to his family, especially his daughter Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez, who had previously served time in a US prison for her role in the cartel’s financial affairs.

Who is El Mencho’s daughter

Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez, 39, is widely known by the nickname “La Negra.” She is the daughter of El Mencho and Rosalinda González Valencia, whose Los Cuinis family runs the financial wing of CJNG.

Born in San Francisco, United States, Jessica has dual citizenship of the United States and Mexico. He later moved to Mexico during his school years and studied marketing at a university in Guadalajara.
His life came under international scrutiny as authorities pursued financial networks linked to CJNG.

Why was El Mencho’s daughter, Jessica Johanna Oseguera Gonzalez, imprisoned in the United States?

Jessica Johanna Oseguera was arrested in Washington DC in February 2020. He had traveled from Mexico to attend his brother’s sentencing hearing when U.S. authorities detained him.

As a member of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion, he faced five counts of “Dealing or Conducting Transactions in the Property of a Designated Foreign Person.” He pleaded guilty to all five charges.
In 2021, a US court sentenced him to 30 months in prison for “intentionally engaging in financial dealings with Mexican companies identified as specially designated narcotics traffickers.” He spent approximately 25 months in prison and was released in early 2022.

On the morning of her arrest, Jessica had received the ash cross that symbolizes the beginning of Lent. His family and friends described him as a deeply religious person.

At the same time, reports said he was wearing luxury items (a Rolex watch, a Louis Vuitton jacket and a Hermès bag) when he was detained, reflecting wealth associated with cartel operations.

El Mencho’s family

Jessica is one of El Mencho’s three children. His brother, Rubén Oseguera González, also known as “El Menchito,” and his sister, Laisha Oseguera, are also part of the extended family network that researchers have long tracked.

El Mencho married Rosalinda González Valencia in 1996. The couple reportedly legally separated in 2018, but wider family ties continued to play a role in the structure of the CJNG.

What’s next after El Mencho’s death?

With the cartel leader now dead, attention shifts to his inner circle and family members who could influence the next phase of the CJNG.

Security experts expect a period of instability within the cartel and possible retaliation following his killing. Mexican authorities see the operation as an important step in weakening one of the most powerful criminal groups in the country, but its consequences could reshape the cartel’s leadership in the coming months.
