Congress Wins Nirmal, Gains In Other Municipalities

ADILABAD: Elections for chairman and deputy chairman in municipalities in the old Adilabad district witnessed cross-party support and Independent candidates securing key positions on Monday.

In Nirmal municipality, Congress members Appala Kavya and Appala Ganesh Chakravarthi were elected as president and vice-president respectively. While Congress secured 24 wards in the municipality, BJP won 13, MIM three and BRS two.

In Asifabad municipality, BRS’s Akash Mengre and Mohd Ahmed were elected as chairman and vice-chairman. A Congressional councilman elected from the 13th district voted in favor of BRS. The 20-member council includes nine BRS members, seven Congress members and four Independent members. Local MLA Kova Laxmi cast her ex officio vote.

In Bhainsa, Independent candidate Dattatri was elected president and Bibi Kuthuza Siddiqui was elected vice-president with the support of Congress, BJP and Independent members along with ex officio votes of MLA Ramarao Patil. The 26-member council includes 12 AIMIM members, six BJP members, seven Independents and one Congress member.

In Adilabad municipality, with the support of BRS, Congress, MIM and Independent members, Independent candidate Bandaru Anisha was elected chairman and Mohd Rohit was elected as MIM vice-chairman. The 49-member council includes 21 BJP members, 11 Congress members, six BRS members, six MIM members and five Independent members. MLA Payal Shankar and MP Godam Nagesh cast their votes.

In Bellampalli, Congress candidate Dava Swathi was elected president and Ragamshetti Satyanarayana was elected vice-president. MLA Gaddam Vinod cast his ex officio vote.

In Chennur municipality, Congress candidate Peddinti Padma was elected president and Nayakapu Vinay was elected vice president. Out of 18 wards, Congress won 11, BRS won four, BJP won two and an Independent won one.

In Luxettipet, Congress candidate Donthi Anjali Devi was elected president and Mothukuri Rajeshwari vice-president. While Congress won 11 out of 15 wards, BRS won three and BJP won one.
