Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool: Arne Slot’s side must find Premier League cutting edge as chances dry up

It was later LiverpoolSteven Gerrard, who lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in November, said his former team’s “bleeding” continues.

That night saw Liverpool suffer a ninth defeat in 12 matches, but Liverpool halted that painful run and are now unbeaten in 10 matches since being handed over by the Dutch champions.

With a spirited performance against leaders Arsenal, Arne Slot’s side became the first team to score a Premier League point at the Emirates Stadium since Manchester City in September.

Conor Bradley’s effort hit the crossbar in the first half was the closest either side came to scoring; Liverpool, on the other hand, was the better team in the second half with 66% possession.

Without a recognized striker, they lacked a focal point for their attack.

Had Hugo Ekitike been fit enough to feature the visitors might have taken the win, but it was still a good night for Liverpool.

After poor performances in recent draws against Leeds and Fulham, last season’s champions put in a performance from which Slot could take many positives.

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch were solid players in midfield and Milos Kerkez had arguably his best game for the club, dealing superbly with the threat of Bukayo Saka.

Defensively, Liverpool prevented Arsenal from making an attempt until stoppage time in the second half. Mikel Arteta’s side have failed to score in both matches against Liverpool this season.

“I think Arne Slot will be absolutely delighted with the performance of the players,” former Reds forward Daniel Sturridge said on Sky Sports.

“We need to give credit to the game plan. They weathered the storm in the first 20 minutes. Afterwards, they showed their work tempo, how determined they were, a very experienced performance and why they were champions.

“They weren’t cutting edge up front but they had some very positive moments. Jeremie Frimpong was a threat all night but missed the final pass. Florian Wirtz was very good, took lots of positions and was very clean tonight. The list goes on. The defense was fantastic.

“They held off attacks all night and I think the manager and players should be proud of themselves. They put in an outstanding performance.”
