Who is surgeon Michael David McKee, charged in Ohio double murder of ex, husband

Michael David McKee was arrested Saturday and charged with fatally shooting his ex-wife and her dentist husband in their Columbus, Ohio, home in late December.

Police responded to the Weinland Park home on the morning of Dec. 30 after Spencer Tepe failed to show up for work and the 37-year-old dentist and 39-year-old Monique Tepe were found dead from gunshot wounds.

McKee, 39, is a vascular surgeon living in Chicago, where he was taken into custody Saturday.

She and Tepe were married from 2015 until they filed for divorce in 2017, which appeared to be amicable, according to the Columbus Dispatch. She was living in Virginia when the divorce was finalized.

Tepe and her husband were about to celebrate their fifth anniversary when they were killed, a family member told WSYX.

McKee was arrested just before noon Saturday at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois and is charged with two counts of murder in Ohio, records show.

Police tracked McKee through his vehicle, which was captured on neighborhood surveillance footage, and later found him near where he worked in Rockford, Illinois, according to court documents.

His car was seen arriving shortly before the murders were believed to have occurred and leaving shortly thereafter, according to court documents.

An arrest warrant was issued for him on Saturday, shortly before he was taken into custody.

He will then be extradited to Franklin County, Ohio, where a hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12, according to the Dispatch.

Police did not specify the reason for the attack.

Prior to his arrest, McKee was listed on surveillance video as a person of interest in the murders, allegedly seen walking down an alley between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Dec. 30, the believed time period for the murders.

McKee and Tepe had no children together.

However, after the police arrived, she shared her two young children, who were found unharmed at home, with her husband.

McKee has active medical licenses in Illinois and California and graduated from medical school at Ohio State University, according to the Dispatch.

He also has family in Zanesville, Ohio, east of Columbus, the newspaper reported.
