Why are Tottenham struggling at home in Premier League?

Spurs have scored seven goals in their six home games this season, while only Burnley have had fewer than 18 shots on target.

Frank’s midfield selections were criticized for being too defensive. Remarkably, Spurs have completed four passes this season. Leader Arsenal made 43.

“When you look at the makeup of their team, the midfield isn’t very creative,” Murphy told BBC Sport.

“None of the front row seem to be playing with confidence, they look a bit light at the front of the pitch.

“Away from home it doesn’t matter as much because they can be more pragmatic – they look for set plays, play against the counter and are hard to beat – and they don’t have the expectation of 60,000 home fans going after teams and really trying to win games.

“That makes a difference for the players. Away from home, you can do it at your own pace and it’s okay for you to be without the ball.

“The games we’ve seen Tottenham perform well away from home have sometimes been comfortable for them; their win at Everton was a good example of that.

“But the lack of cohesion and rhythm in the front three, where everything has changed so much, and even the small change in midfield where sometimes there are 10, sometimes three midfielders, it all seems a bit confusing.

“It means Spurs may look a little too confident at home, with no-one playing on the ball with any belief or confidence.”
