Trump’s attack after train stabbing by ‘illegal’ suspect | US | News

President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on social media following another stabbing incident on a North Carolina commuter train, blaming Democrats and accusing them of systematically “tearing everything up.”
“Another stabbing by an Illegal Immigrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? The Democrats are destroying it piece by piece like everything else!! President DJT,” Trump said Saturday evening on Truth Social.
North Carolina authorities have charged a 33-year-old man in connection with a violent stabbing attack on a Charlotte commuter train that left one victim fighting for his life, coming just months after a Ukrainian refugee was fatally stabbed in a separate incident on the city’s rail network.
Oscar Solarzano, 33, faces attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and additional charges following an incident Friday afternoon in which he allegedly brandished a large knife, according to a statement from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Authorities confirmed the victim suffered stab wounds and is in critical but stable condition.
Solarzano remained in custody without bail on Saturday. Court documents revealed that the magistrate judge found that the suspect was residing in the United States illegally and had previously been removed from the country.
He is scheduled to appear in Mecklenburg County District Court Monday morning.
Court documents filed in North Carolina show Solarzano appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and spoke incoherently, allegedly provoking the victim into a confrontation.
Online court and jail records do not show legal representation for Solarzano. This incident occurred just four months after a 23-year-old Ukrainian woman was fatally stabbed on a Charlotte commuter train in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack that was caught on camera.
According to family members, the victim, Iryna Zarutska, was sheltering in a bomb shelter in Ukraine before fleeing to America to escape conflict. One suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., faces a first-degree murder charge in North Carolina state court in Zarutska’s death and has also been indicted in federal court on a charge of causing death in a public transportation system.
Zarutska’s killing sparked outrage among Trump supporters and prominent figures in the Make America Great Again movement. Numerous commentators highlighted the incident as evidence that federal intervention was needed, arguing that leaders of major cities and state governors were failing to protect residents from crime and uncontrolled illegal immigration.
In November, the Trump administration stepped up immigration enforcement operations in Charlotte.
Over the past month, North Carolina has emerged as the latest focal point in Trump’s widespread deportation campaign, with ICE and Border Patrol agents deployed to the state’s major urban centers, including Charlotte and Raleigh. Local officials, including Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, condemned such operations, saying in a statement that they “cause unnecessary fear and uncertainty.”
“We want people in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to know that we stand with all residents who simply want to get on with their lives,” the statement said.
It also had signatures from Mecklenburg County Commissioner Mark Jerrell and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board member Stephanie Sneed.
The Trump administration cited Zarutska’s fatal stabbing as evidence that Democratic-led cities are failing to protect residents.
