Trump meets Zelenskiy, says Putin ‘has to end’ war

US President Donald Trump added that he would consider giving more of the Patriot missiles he wanted to defend against Ukraine’s Russian strikes, and Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “He should really end this war”.

The statements came after a 50 -minute meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a NATO summit in The Hague.

Both leaders described this as a positive step in a conflict that Trump described as “more difficult than other wars”.

During a press conference celebrating its diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, Trump said that patriots are “very difficult to buy”, but “we will see whether we can make some useful.”

Zelenskiy talked about air defense systems, but it was not immediately clear whether Trump referred to more missiles or full batteries.

Trump has also left the possibility of providing more military assistance to Ukraine, which has been subjected to Russian progress in the battlefield in recent months.

Previously, his predecessor Joe Biden had not shown a sign of continuing his arms donation to Ukraine, which Russia launched a full -scale invasion in 2022.

“We will see what the money will happen,” Trump said, when the US asked if it will provide more financing to Ukraine’s defense this year. He said.

US -made patriotic batteries have been critical to hitting Russian ballistic missiles that have been going to Ukraine cities in recent weeks.

Local officials said that dozens of people were killed in the Southeast Regional capital of the capital Kyiv and Dnipro.

Zelenskiy said that if the US does not want to donate before the meeting on Wednesday, Ukraine is willing to buy more patriots.

He said that the talks with Trump were “long and fundamental”.

“Ukraine is ready to buy this equipment and support American weapons manufacturers,” Zelenskiy wrote.

“We also discussed the production potential of the drones together. We can strengthen each other.”

“Look, Vladimir Putin really has to finish this war.”

Zelenskiy wore a dark suit -style jacket on the meeting, unlike the more informal military -style outfit, which was criticized for wearing a controversial White House meeting with Trump in February.

Since then, he has worked to rebuild relations with the US administration, which concerns Ukraine against Russia.

However, Trump’s defense expenditures demanded a large increase in NATO -wide increase in Wednesday, instead of the main meeting, he had to attend the pre -time dinner for Tuesday evening.

Unlike last year, this year’s summit statement did not mention the future NATO membership for Ukraine.

The statement condemned Russia’s long -term threat to European and Atlantic security, but did not directly accuse Russia for invasion, as previous statements.
