Wife dead and husband fighting for life after horror stabbing outside | UK | News

A woman who was allegedly stabbed near her home in Ireland has died, and her husband is struggling to survive. The couple were allegedly attacked outside their home in Shrewsbury Down, Cork, at around 9.30pm on Monday.

While neighbors who saw the incident outside informed the emergency services, Armed Support Units also arrived at the scene. The area was quickly cordoned off while a full forensic examination was carried out. A man known to the couple, believed to be in his twenties, was arrested at the scene and taken to a police station in the city for questioning.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and was due to see a doctor last evening.

It is understood police need time to determine whether he is medically fit to be questioned.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man and then took them both to Cork University Hospital.

Unfortunately, the 59-year-old woman died in hospital and her husband is seriously injured.
