Will contest 100 seats, provide third alternative to Bihar: AIMIM

The party, headed by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, claimed that it aims to build a “third alternative” in Bihar, where politics has been all about the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-RJD combine for years.
Speaking to PTI-Bhasha, AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman said, “Our plan is to win 100 seats. Both NDA and ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (as the INDIA bloc is known in Bihar) will have to realize our presence.” he said.
He also claimed that the ‘Mahagathbandhan’, which accused the AIMIM of splitting the secular votes in 2020, cannot do so anymore.
“It is now widely known that I wrote to (RJD chief) Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav expressing my desire for a tie-up. But there was no response.
“We must now do our best to expand our footprints. Yes, we are also in talks with like-minded parties to explore the possibility of a third front. Everything will be clear in a few days,” the AIMIM leader said. Elections to the 243-member Bihar assembly will be held on November 6 and 11 and counting of votes will be done on November 14. AIMIM had contested the 2020 assembly elections in alliance with the former. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s BSP and the now abolished Rashtriya Lok Samata Party are headed by former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha; he too has since formed a new outfit called Rashtriya Lok Morcha and joined the NDA.
In the last assembly polls, AIMIM won five seats and appeared to be hurting the RJD, Congress and the Left coalition in other assembly segments.
However, in 2022, four MLAs of AIMIM joined RJD.
Iman, who was herself earlier in the RJD and the JD(U) headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is currently the sole legislator of the AIMIM.
According to political observers, AIMIM sees a catchment area in Bihar where Muslims constitute more than 17 per cent of the total population but have never had proportionate representation in the state legislature.
Last month, Owaisi flew to Seemanchal district and spent four days touring areas like Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar and Purnea, which have a significant population of the minority community.
While Owaisi has accused the RJD, JD(U) and Congress of indifference towards Muslims, the lawyer-politician has been accused of being a “B team of the BJP” who cut off “secular votes” to help the saffron party.
