Will it be Frogmore Cottage? Where Prince Andrew could move to if he leaves Royal Lodge
Prince Andrew has reportedly agreed to give up his residence in the Royal Lodge on the condition that he and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson receive the keys to two other properties in the Royal Family’s portfolio.
The prince is facing growing calls to leave the 30-bedroom mansion for which he has not paid rent for more than 20 years because of his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, who vehemently denies all allegations against him, paid £1 million for the rent in 2003 and Ms Ferguson moved in with him in 2008.
He reportedly asked for separate homes for himself and his ex-wife in exchange for leaving the Royal Lodge.
“No one is sure yet how things will go in the Palace,” a friend of the duo said. Sun.
“Andy wants to leave but these are his demands. He is realistic and knows the writing is on the wall and his time at Royal Lodge is up. If he has to leave, he wants Frogmore Cottage.”
Andrew renounced the use of the title Duke of York and reinstated his remaining honors on 17 October; this decision was said to have been encouraged by King Charles.
But the public outcry may mean Andrew has to go one step further and leave the Royal Lodge.
Due to his 75-year agreement with the Crown Estate, he could be entitled to £558,000 if he gives up his lease early. It’s unclear how much rent Andrew and Ferguson would have to pay if they moved to other royal properties, but there are a few options that could be considered.
Frogmore country house
Andrew has reportedly agreed to leave Royal Lodge if he moves to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, which is part of the Crown Estate.
Frogmore Cottage is the former 10-bedroom home of Prince Harry and Meghan, whose estate was gifted by Queen Elizabeth as a wedding gift. The couple occupied the property in 2019 before leaving for the US the following year.
Property, II. It is grade-listed and lies north of the grounds of Frogmore House in Windsor Castle’s Home Park, a 655-acre private royal park managed by the Crown Estate.
Moving to Frogmore Cottage will require a lease agreement with the Crown Estate, which will be subject to parliamentary and public scrutiny.
Adelaide Cottage
If Andrew’s demands are met, Ms Ferguson will move to Adelaide Cottage while she resides at Frogmore Cottage, the current residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales and their families.
William and Kate plan to move out of the four-bedroom house next month and make it available to Mrs Ferguson, who has lived with Andrew at the Royal Lodge for nearly two decades.
According to Historic England, the country house, built in 1831, is described as a “picturesque” two-storey stuccoed dwelling with sash windows and elaborate perforated bargeboards around the edges of the roof.
Wood Farm
If Andrew doesn’t move to Frogmore, Queen Elizabeth II. He may have to occupy Wood Farm at Sandringham, said to be one of Elizabeth’s favorite retreats.
The private residence, which is not part of the Crown Estate, will give the prince more privacy from the public and cameras.
The five-bedroom farmhouse, which Prince Philip has held for much of his retirement, still represented a significant downsizing for Andrew.
Craigowan Accommodation
Craigowan Lodge, located on the Balmoral estate, may also be a suitable option for the prince.
Andrew and Mrs. Ferguson stayed over the summer in the seven-bedroom house, which is close to a nine-hole golf course.
Private property in the Scottish Highlands would also protect the prince from public scrutiny. However, Andrew is said to not want to move away from his current position or his family.
