At least two people, including a young girl, were killed when a gunman opened fire at a high school hockey tournament in Rhode Island.

Chaos ensued at Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, about 10 minutes outside of Providence, on Monday afternoon.

An unidentified male assailant opened fire at one of the hockey games, killing a young girl and another victim.

The other 3 people were hospitalized. Their situation remains unclear.

The ice hockey players were not harmed because the clashes occurred in the stands near the spectators.

Police said the attacker died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after bullets rained into the arena. Police are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

It was not a school day because of President’s Day, which is a federal holiday. The tournament was played between two interscholastic teams.

The hockey match was between a co-operative team of Coventry and Johnston boys and St. Raphael, PCD was playing against another co-op team from North Providence and North Smithfield schools. The tournament started at 14.00.
