Winter Olympics 2026: GB curlers on brink of early exit after Canada defeat

Mouat’s side have an excellent record against Brad Jacobs’ team and beat them in the world last four last spring.
But the Canadians knew they could improve their own chances and get some revenge, and they got off to a strong start, taking a 3-1 lead after three games.
The English team is considered the best team in the world and they are right. Taking advantage of a slight slump from their opponents, they took the lead by playing two more in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
But the crunch of granite went against them in the seventh and an unfortunate bounce left Canada with three chances, which they gladly took.
Mouat and his team needed to respond. They couldn’t. Instead, they gave up steals and left themselves with a three-point deficit with a double-ended play.
This was a deficiency they could not overcome. And now, their desire to improve on the silver medal they received from Beijing is no longer in their own hands.
Great Britain’s women are also in a precarious position and need to beat the USA on Wednesday (08:05), Japan later in the day (18:05) and Italy on Thursday (13:05) to get into the last four.
