Winter Olympics 2026: Penis injections, cheating biathletes and curling rows – stories we didn’t expect to tell

Cheating accusations. Swear words are thrown onto the ice. Counterclaims regarding illegal filming operation. In curling?
The drama began when Canada’s Marc Kennedy got into a heated verbal argument with Swede Oskar Eriksson towards the end of his side’s 8-6 win.
The Swedes believed that Kennedy was repeatedly double-tapping some of his pieces, an illegal move.
But the cards were eventually signed by both teams, meaning the result would stand in a sport where players are proudly self-managed.
Video footage was later circulated after the match. Was it premeditated?
The next day, Switzerland reported Kennedy for the same crime. World Curling later announced that they would deploy extra officials to control double tapping for the remainder of the Games.
A double tap was called for, as was Canadian women’s captain Rachel Holman and Team GB’s Bobby Lammie; Neither incident was intentional and was a case of a figure falling onto granite.
World Curling has changed its protocol once again and teams can now request that piece delivery be monitored if in doubt and for at least three ends.
