Winter Paralympics: Great Britain’s guide dog team member

There are 25 athletes representing Great Britain at the Winter Paralympics, as well as dozens of coaches and support staff.

But at the ParalympicsGB House in the Cortina mountains, a “very nice girl” is stealing the spotlight.

Pickle is an eight-year-old black labrador retriever guide dog.

Human being Hester Poole competes in Para-alpine skiing events for the visually impaired.

“He loves the mountains; he always really jumps when he sees the snow,” said Poole, who has had severely limited eyesight since birth.

“When it comes to skiing, win or lose, it’s nice to get down to the bottom of the slope and have this furry ball of love waiting for me.”
