Scrap dealer hacked to death

On January 12, a man was hacked to death within Bandepalya police station limits by a group of armed men, allegedly due to an old grudge.

The deceased was identified as 29-year-old Shabbir, a resident of Hosa Road. His father is a retired Sub-Inspector who served in the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP).

According to police, the incident took place around 11 pm on Mangammanapalya main road. Shabbir ran a scrap shop near his home and had gone to Victoria Hospital earlier in the night to visit a relative who was undergoing treatment. While he was returning home in an autorickshaw with his friends, their vehicle was stopped near a petrol depot.

According to the police, 8 to 10 attackers arriving on cars and motorcycles blocked the car in which Shabbir was arriving and forcibly dragged him onto the road. He was later attacked with lethal weapons in front of the public and was seriously injured. While Shabbir died at the scene due to his injuries, the attackers escaped.

Investigation revealed that Shabbir and the accused knew each other and had earlier argued over a trivial issue, which later turned into a fight.

A case of murder has been registered at Bandepalya police station and a large team has been formed to trace the accused. Police are examining security cameras in the area to identify and capture the suspects.
