Tom Cruise is experiencing one of the most dramatic transformations of his career.
On Monday, Warner Bros. made his debut trailer Alejandro Iñárritu’s highly anticipated film “Digger” offers fans a look at the 64-year-old actor in a role unlike anything he’s taken on in years.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric oil magnate whose decisions bring the world to the brink of disaster, eventually forcing him to embark on an unlikely mission to save humanity.

According to the film’s official synopsis, Cruise’s character embarks on a quest to prove that he is “humanity’s hero before the disaster he creates destroys everything.”

The trailer opens with Digger frantically worrying about his sick cat and then becoming enraged at an employee who suggests shutting down one of the company’s big projects. It soon becomes clear that this attempt could trigger a staggering $18 trillion disaster and set the stage for the film’s risky storyline.

Cruise is virtually unrecognizable in the images and has a very distinctive appearance as the unpredictable billionaire.
Fans on social media couldn’t ignore the jaw-dropping transformation.
“Respect the radiant king,” a user posted on X. “DIGGER looks hilarious already.”

“I can’t believe the way it looks,” another user wrote. “Les Grossman vibe, I bet you had so much fun making this movie, you are so amazing!”
“Digger” is Cruise’s first role outside of the blockbuster “Top Gun” and “Mission: Impossible” franchises in years. The film is directed by Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“Birdman”, “The Revenant”) and will be released on October 2.
Cruise first revealed the trailer during a Q&A event in Los Angeles last week, where he praised the ambitious project and the creative partnership with Iñárritu.
“I’ve never encountered anything that challenged me like that, and neither did Alejandro when we walked in,” Cruise said. People. “And when you watch this movie, you’ll see that it’s completely original.”

The cast also includes Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Michael Stuhlbarg and John Goodman.

Ahead of the trailer’s release, Cruise also expanded his social media presence by joining TikTok over the weekend to promote the film.
The actor reached more than 1.4 million followers in a short time.
