Woman in hospital after baby found dead at Perth house

Police have charged a 28-year-old woman with the murder of a baby who was found dead at a home in Perth’s southern suburbs on Thursday morning.

The eight-month-old baby was found dead at the house on Winpara Road in Baldivis.

Police said they, along with St John Ambulance, were called to the home but the baby was already dead.

“Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death,” a WA police spokesman said.

The woman believed to be the baby’s mother was taken to Rockingham Hospital for treatment at the scene and was transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a stable condition.

He is due to appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court on Friday after being formally charged by Homicide Detectives.

The street was cordoned off on Thursday and police spent all day searching the house.

Officers said a woman was assisting police with investigations and there was no threat to the public.
