Women’s Super League: Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd – how does title race stand at winter break?

The 2024-25 season was a disappointing one for Manchester City; They finished fourth and missed out on a place in the Champions League.

But their failure to qualify for Europe may have been a blessing in disguise.

City are on a 10-match winning streak and are thriving under Jeglertz, who has reignited the club’s title bid and created an energetic, high-pressing brand of football since his arrival in July.

Former England defender Lindsay Johnson told BBC Radio 5 Live: “They’ve quietly gone about their business and grown in confidence. I think if you’re six points ahead at the end of Christmas then you’re looking forward to that break and getting back on the pitch in January.”

“They are showing that they have what it takes to win this league and possibly take it from Chelsea. Their quality is hard to deal with.”

But Jeglertz doesn’t get carried away.

“We can’t take anything for granted. No one can take away what we’ve done, but everything will be determined in the spring,” he said on 5 Live.

City’s 30 points from their first 11 games has been bettered only once in the last eight WSL seasons; Chelsea collected 31 points last season.

The team, which was at the top after 11 matches, managed to lift the cup in six of the last eight seasons.
