Woman discovers $1.6m Gold Lotto win after scrolling Facebook
While scrolling through her Facebook feed, a woman learned that her lotto ticket had made her a millionaire.
In Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw 4683, four lucky bettors with numbers 10, 31, 44, 30, 43 and 25 and additional numbers 4 and 38 won the first division prize of $1,618,088.73.
The woman, from Loganholme in south-east Queensland, was scrolling through her social media feed when a post popped up from her local newsagent. “The newsagent where we bought the ticket posted on their Facebook page that they were selling a major league winning entry over the weekend and that reminded me that we had bought a ticket,” the woman said.
Because the winning QuickPick ticket was not registered with The Lott, there was no way to contact the division one winner about his prize.
He got the Loganholme woman to check her ticket.
“I immediately checked the ticket and was in great shock,” he said.
“We’re still trying to process it all.”
The newsagent was thrilled with the winning ticket, the first episode since the store opened.
“It is incredibly exciting for our team to know that one of our customers has achieved such a life-changing win,” said newsstand owner Darrell Dhnaram.
“We hope this win will bring lots of joy to the lucky ticket holder and their family, and we will definitely be celebrating the news with our local community.”
Another ticket holder, who initially thought he had made a small profit from Saturday night’s drawing, was surprised to learn he was actually the major league winner.
The Baxter man, who lives on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria’s south-east, was also one of four division one winners.
He said he was “confused” when he got the call from The Lott because he thought he had only made $1,600.
“Wow! I won more than I thought!” he told the team.
“That’s great. I don’t understand why you called me.”
“I took a quick look over the weekend and thought I had won $1,600 – of course not!”
The Baxter man said the division one win would be “good for everyone”, although he wasn’t sure what he would spend his prize money on.
“It will benefit a lot of people around me,” he said.
“I need to process this news before we celebrate, but maybe a nice dinner can be planned.”
