World Cup 2026: Donald Trump will welcome Iran – Gianni Infantino

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said US President Donald Trump was “delighted” for Iran to participate in this summer’s World Cup despite the countries being at war.
In his post on his Instagram account, Infantino said that he met with Trump on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the tournament hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, which will start on June 11.
Infantino said he and Trump “talked about the current situation in Iran.”
Iran is scheduled to play three matches in the United States, but their participation has been in doubt since the United States and Israel attacked the country this month, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran responded by launching missiles and drones at Israel and four Gulf Arab states that host US military bases: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
“During the talks, President Trump reiterated that the Iranian team would of course be welcomed to participate in the tournament in the United States,” Infantino said. he said.
“Now more than ever, we need an event like the FIFA World Cup to bring people together, and I sincerely thank the President of the United States for his support as he shows once again that football unites the world.”
