Scarborough crash: Car left in pieces after man slams into light pole on West Coast Highway

A car was blown to pieces after running traffic lights at a busy intersection in Perth’s north, and the driver walked away remarkably unharmed and fined.

The black Toyota was left sideways and smashed at the junction between the West Coast Highway and Manning Street in Scarborough at around 5.30am on Easter Sunday.

The male driver, a man in his 30s, was examined by paramedics but did not need to be transported to hospital.

The West Coast Highway was closed in both directions as emergency services responded to the crash. Main Roads said the road reopened at 7am.

WA Police said the driver was issued a traffic violation ticket but refused to provide further information about the alleged offence.

Western Power also attended the scene to respond to the affected power pole and flashing traffic lights at the intersection.

It follows a horrific start to the Easter long weekend with a series of Western Australian crashes that killed three people.

Road police command Commander Mike Peters issued a statement saying officers continued to be clear about removing careless drivers from the road.

Double penalties apply for Easter weekend.
