UIDAI launches new Aadhaar app: Check how to download, new features of the app that allow instant digital sharing, verification

UIDAI said: “This app reimagines how residents interact with their identity by putting control, portability and privacy right in their hands” and added: “This app is designed for early adopters to explore and test. For any issues or feedback encountered, please contact us at feedback.app@uidai.net.in.”
In a post on X, UIDAI urged users to download the app and experience paperless Aadhaar authentication.
What does the new UIDAI Aadhaar app offer?
The new app allows residents to use Aadhaar digitally without relying on physical documents. While the government continues to issue physical Aadhaar cards, the digital copy helps facilitate verification for banking, entry, driving license, passport and other services.
The app also aims to simplify identity verification, reduce paperwork and give users more control over their identity data during routine verifications.
UIDAI New Aadhaar Application Key Features
- Users can share their Aadhaar digitally, eliminating the need for a physical copy.
- Aadhaar details can be shared using a QR code or as verifiable credentials.
- Shared Aadhaar data is masked, so users do not reveal the entire 12-digit number.
- Up to five Aadhaar profiles can be added to a device if they are linked to the same registered mobile number.
- This feature supports parents who manage their children’s Aadhaar profiles from their own numbers.
- The app includes biometric locking and unlocking.
- Once locked, biometric data remains secure until it is intentionally unlocked or disabled.
How to use the new Aadhaar application?
- Download the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Select your preferred language and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- Verify the registered mobile number with an OTP.
- Authenticate using facial scan or biometrics.
- Add Aadhaar profile.
- Create a six-digit security PIN to secure the profile.
After installation, users can view their details, receive QR codes, share verifiable credentials, and lock or unlock biometrics. UIDAI said the early access version will help improve the service ahead of wider release and encouraged users to share their experiences directly through the app.
