Little girl dies on the day before her ninth birthday ‘after taking unwell in car’

A ‘beautiful, sweet and amazing’ young girl died tragically and ‘unexpectedly’ after falling ill the day before her ninth birthday.

Eight-year-old Olivia Grace Edwards collapsed at Kingswell Park and Ride on Skene Road in Aberdeen at around 8.40pm on Saturday, October 25.

Emergency services rushed to the car park on the western outskirts of the city and the teenager was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where he sadly died ‘a short time later’.

Police Scotland said Olivia’s death “is being treated as unexplained but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”

A statement added to the fundraiser reads: ‘My best friends unexpectedly lost their beautiful baby girl just one day shy of her 9th birthday.

‘His parents, sisters, family and friends are heartbroken. ‘Olivia was a beautiful, funny, sweet, wonderful little girl and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.’

One donor said: ‘I don’t know your family personally but I’m so sorry for your loss and I’m sending so much love and strength to your family.’

The appeal has already seen more than £9,000 of the £16,000 target donated.

Other tributes to little Olivia have flooded the internet, with one person writing: ‘Deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of beautiful Olivia. ‘I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’

Another added: ‘Truly heartbreaking to hear this sad news. My thoughts are with you all.’

A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘We were made aware of concerns about a child who had become unwell on Skene Road in Aberdeen at around 8.40pm on Saturday 25 October 2025.

‘He was taken to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

‘His death is thought to be unexplained, but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.’
