According to the latest reports, the sequel of Rowdy Rathore has been given the green light by producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali and a ‘Kannada director’ will direct the film. However, Akshay Kumar will not be participating in the film. Netizens lost their cool and attacked the producers.

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer Rowdy Rathore was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2012. Over the years the film has gained more cult following and fans are still eagerly awaiting Part 2. There is also an update on the same but it will definitely disappoint Akki’s fans. According to the latest reports, Rowdy Rathore 2 is finally happening, but without Akshay and he will be replaced by a pan-India star. The 2012 film was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is reportedly finally turning Rowdy Rathore into a franchise with a new lead actor.

As India Today quoted a source as saying, “Bhansali Productions is actively working on several big projects including ‘Rowdy Rathore 2’. It is one of the studio’s biggest franchises with a strong pan-India fan base. Considering the film’s vast popularity, the makers are looking to cast a major pan-Indian star.” This news spread like wildfire, leaving netizens stunned and Kumar’s fans enraged. They took to Reddit with their thoughts and criticized Bhansali for highlighting the series.

Many cyber citizens vented their disappointment on Reddit and criticized the makers for abandoning Kumar, who headlined the Hindi remake of SS Rajamouli’s Vikramarkudu. One netizen wrote: “WTF Bhansali, don’t cast Kartik Aaryan in this movie.” Another netizen wrote: “Akki, a pan-India star, is also a pan-India star. What are they aiming for, Prabhas, Rajinikanth?” A netizen wrote: “Vicky Kaushal took on Bhansali’s role.” One netizen wrote: “Please don’t give this movie to Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and super duper star Kartik Aaryan.”

Directed by Prabhudeva, Rowdy Rathore is the official Hindi remake of SS Rajamouli’s 2006 blockbuster Telugu film Vikramarkudu. The original action drama starred Ravi Teja in dual roles. Rowdy Rathore also played Nassar, who played the popular villain Baapji. Shot on a reported budget of Rs 60 crore, the film grossed over Rs 203 crore worldwide.
