‘Yellowstone’s’ Luke Grimes faces backlash from Montana locals after state move

Luke Grimes, best known for his role as Kayce Dutton on “Yellowstone” and its spinoff “Marshals,” is facing an unexpected backlash after leaving Hollywood behind for life in Montana.

The actor told Joe Rogan that moving to the Big Sky State didn’t always go smoothly, and his move from Los Angeles sparked unexpected outrage among locals.

“That’s true. Yes. And they’re not happy about it,” Grimes admitted. “We had some people come visit us in the valley where I live. Our friends from California were driving by, so we went for a walk and we were in their car. They had Cali license plates, you know.

“We went for a walk and someone had written ‘go back’ in the dust of their car. Like, people are so weird about that, so I don’t tell anyone exactly where I am because they’d be so mad at me.”

The Hollywood actor explained that the tension has spread to public spaces.

“I can’t go to bars there anymore because whatever that idiot is is at the bar and he can’t wait to fight me. I’m just like, I can’t wait to do it because it’s like a win-win for him, you know? He’s going to sue me or something. I don’t know, but it’s a lose-lose situation for me,” Grimes said.

But moving to Montana was a personal choice for Grimes and her family.

At the “Marshals” premiere in February, the actor explained to Fox News Digital why he and his wife, Brazilian model Bianca Rodrigues, are leaving Hollywood behind.

“I was going there three or four months out of the year, and every time I was done shooting and came back here, it felt like I was leaving home rather than coming back home,” he said.

The couple, who had a son named Rigel Randolph Grimes, gradually fell in love with Montana over several years.

“It was just a gradual shift in gear over a few years and then yeah, my wife and I fell in love with it and decided to live there,” he added.

Grimes returned to the screen as Kayce Dutton in “Marshals,” the latest expansion of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” universe.

According to an official synopsis, Dutton “joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals and combines his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring ranger justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological toll of serving as the last line of defense in the district’s war against violence.”
