Yorkshire: Cable thieves cause New Year’s Eve train disruption

National Rail has confirmed that train services in South Yorkshire are facing serious disruptions after thieves stole signal cables.

The incident occurred at Conisbrough between Doncaster and Sheffield and affected CrossCountry, Northern and TransPennine Express services.

National Rail has warned of fewer trains, cancellations, delays and routes being revised or diverted between the two stations.

This disruption is expected to continue through New Year’s Eve.

Network Rail sent staff to the site to investigate the theft.
