‘You guys are the reason we are not an A school’

The mother said Barnett should be dismissed because the trust between the school and families had been “broken” by Barnett’s alleged targeting of black students.

Woodrow Wilson has a student population of 2,000, about 6 percent of whom are black. Following the meeting and the backlash, Barnett issued a letter to parents taking responsibility for the incident.

“The decision to hold this meeting and the discussion that ensued was inappropriate,” he wrote. “I take full responsibility and responsibility for what happened and I can assure you that it was never my intention to separate or harm groups of students.”

On Monday, the Dallas Independent School District sent a letter to parents informing them that Barnett would no longer serve as principal and that Danielle Peters would take over on an interim basis.

A statement sent by Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde confirmed that the meeting Barnett sought was not approved by the district. The letter did not include details about what actually happened during the meeting.
