YSRC Meets PM To Stop PPP-Based Medical Colleges

– KURNOOL: A delegation of YSRC leaders submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Orvakal Airport on Thursday, asking him to intervene in stopping the state government’s move to open new medical colleges in the state under public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Alur MLA B. Virupakshi, MLC Dr. The bench, including A. Madhusudan and Zilla Parishad president Yerrabothula Papi Reddy, accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of trying to transfer colleges initially established by former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to private players.

They said 17 medical colleges have been established to expand poor people’s access to medical education and healthcare. But the current government’s privatization plan threatens to undermine these efforts.

YSRC leaders strongly criticized the move, saying it was financially unhealthy and aimed at favoring selected individuals. Officials said the government was planning single-tender tenders, saying this violated established procedures.

They emphasized that even BJP-ruled states retained government control over new medical colleges. They warned that transferring these institutions to private parties would harm students and families in need of affordable medical education.

YSRC leaders stated that five medical colleges are already operational and two others were completed last year under the previous government.

They requested the Prime Minister to persuade the state government to withdraw its privatization decision, thus preserving the public healthcare system for the poor and middle class.
