Two Groups Clash During Karahunnime Celebrations

: Many people were injured in a clash between two groups during the Karahunnime celebrations in Naregal village of Hanagal taluk of Haveri district on Monday.

According to preliminary information, approximately seven people were injured. It was stated that the violence broke out when a group of young people were passing the prized calves through the village as part of the Karahunnime celebrations. It was claimed that an argument broke out between two groups during the march due to the movement of cattle. The verbal exchange soon became heated.

It was stated that individuals from both communities attacked each other during the conflict. Police said the circumstances that led to the violence were being investigated. Police teams were dispatched to the area to ensure peace.

While some of the seriously injured have been referred to the Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI), others are receiving treatment at Haveri District Hospital.

Haveri Police Chief Yashoda Vantagodi said, “A clash broke out while people were taking calves decorated with colors as part of the Karahunnime celebrations. A case is being registered regarding the incident.” He evaluated the situation and instructed the authorities to take the necessary measures.
