Zelenskyy announces Ukraine-US-Russia talks scheduled in Abu Dhabi

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday that a new round of talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia will be held this week, as Moscow continues its offensive across the country and Kiev presses for progress toward ending the war.
Writing on X, Zelenskyy said meetings were planned for Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi.
“Ukraine is ready for a comprehensive discussion, and we are interested in ensuring that the outcome brings us closer to the true and honorable end of the war,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The announcement comes as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukraine’s energy and logistics infrastructure and living conditions for civilians deteriorate as winter temperatures drop.

Ukrainian officials say Moscow has repeatedly targeted power grids, heating and water systems throughout the nearly four-year war; An operation that Kiev describes as an effort to use winter conditions as a weapon against the civilian population.

Authorities have warned that Ukraine is facing one of the coldest periods of the season, with temperatures expected to drop as low as minus-22 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
President Donald Trump said late last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to temporarily halt attacks on Kiev and other cities because of the extreme cold.

“I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kiev and cities and towns for a week during this extraordinary cold,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting at the White House. he said, adding that Putin “accepted it.”
The White House did not elaborate on the timing or scope of the pause, and Ukrainian officials expressed skepticism about Russia’s intentions.
Zelenskyy said on Thursday that key obstacles to the peace deal were still unresolved, including the future of occupied Ukrainian territory and territorial claims that Moscow has not seized.

Zelenskyy stated that Russia hit energy facilities in various regions of Ukraine on Thursday, but such an attack did not happen overnight. He added that Russian drones and missiles continue to hit residential areas and logistics centers across Ukraine.
Trump called Putin’s agreement to pause a concession, but Zelenskyy questioned whether Moscow was truly interested in ending the war as the invasion approaches its fourth anniversary on Feb. 24.

“I do not believe that Russia wants to end the war. There is a lot of evidence to the contrary,” Zelenskyy said on Thursday. he said.
