Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday called on the United States and other allies to respond to belligerent “signals” from Russia.
“Today, we once again heard signals from Moscow that they are preparing to make next year the year of war. These signals are not only for us. It is very important that our partners see them and not only see them, but also respond; especially partners in the United States, who often say that Russia wants to end the war,” Zelenskyy said. “But the signals coming from Russia are the opposite, they come in the form of official orders to their armies. The Russian mentality needs to be recognized and acted upon. When Russia is in this mentality, it will also undermine diplomacy, which only tries to mask its desire to destroy Ukraine and the Ukrainians and legitimize Russia’s theft of our lands, by using diplomatic language and putting pressure on certain points in the documents. And then other countries in Europe will come, which someone from Russia may one day call so-called ‘historic lands’,” he said in his post.
His post concluded: “Real protection against this past of Russia’s madness is needed, and we will continue to work with all our partners to ensure that protection is in place. Security measures are needed, financial measures are needed – including actions against Russian assets – political measures are needed. And courage is needed from all partners: to see the truth, accept the truth, and act accordingly. I want to thank everyone who supports Ukraine.”
Zelenskyy also conveyed the message in Ukrainian video.

Putin said, “The goals of the special military operation will undoubtedly be achieved. We prefer to achieve this and address the root causes of the conflict through diplomatic means.
