Heritage Dept Signs MoU for Conservation of Stepwells in TG

Hyderabad:The heritage department on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Association for the Advancement of Humane Studies (SAHE) to undertake the identification, scientific documentation, conservation and restoration of historic step wells, as well as to raise awareness about the state’s water heritage.

The MoU was signed by department director Prof. It was signed by Arjun Rao Kuthadi and SAHE representatives Kalpana Ramesh and Annapurna.

Under the partnership, the organizations will identify and geotag stepwells, prepare a digital inventory and undertake detailed archaeological, historical, architectural and technical documentation. They will also prepare conservation plans and detailed project reports (DPRs) for the restoration of step wells.

According to the statement, the ministry and SAHE will also work together to promote heritage tourism, conduct research and publications, organize awareness campaigns, workshops and training programs with the active participation of local communities in conservation.

Prof. Arjun Rao said the MoU is an important step towards protecting step wells and ensuring their preservation for future generations through the joint efforts of government departments, experts, academic institutions, voluntary organizations and local communities. Deputy principals Dr P. Nagaraju, Dr Ramulu Nayak and Narsing attended the programme.
