Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards said all shoppers were evacuated from the mall.
Police stated that the shooting took place in the dining area and that this was not a random act of violence, but a targeted incident during a fight between two groups.
“I heard a loud ‘pop’ and then another ‘pop’,” a mall employee said he told ABC Baton Rouge affiliate WBRZ. “… When I turned around, I saw people falling to the ground and then the gun. … And he was turning around and shooting randomly.”
“I called security and said, ‘There were shots fired in the dining area, people fell to the ground, people were shot.’ Then the police came and it was complete chaos… There was blood everywhere,” he said.
“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” he said.
